Serpentine Summer Pavilion

by ianthompson on July 6, 2010

Jean Nouvel’s Serpentine Pavilion in Hyde Park is underway (as is his One London development near St Pauls Cathedral) and makes number 10 for the Serpentine’s prestigious invitation event. One of the largest structures to date, the pavilion is constructed of a bright red steel lattice, fabric and plastic, set out in stark contrast to the green of Hyde Park.

Jean Nouvel will be talking about his design at the Serpentine on Monday the 12th of July 2010. The pavilion is due to be completed in July and will be on the lawn until the 17th of October.

The Geotaggers’ World Atlas

by ianthompson on May 26, 2010

London Geotagged

Pulling the location of thousands of Geotagged images from Flickr, Eric Fischer has assembled some beautiful images representing the most photographed spaces of our planets largest cities. The images peak and rise where you’d expect; all those tourist locations feature heavily. It’s an interesting ‘map’ of tourist movement and should help in tracking the best location for your next restaurant.

This one by Robert Mills Architect, Melbourne, Australia. Verdant House in Toorak, is a perfect composition of structured and fluid forms, textures and light. Mr Mills’ other projects are equally compelling. See more of his work here.

Koolhaas Houselife

by ianthompson on November 13, 2009

In the spirit of  Tati, the story of this particular architectural icon is seen through the eyes of the caretaker and staff. A film about an architectural icon with a very alternative presentation technique. Normally idolised and scrubbed clean, this film shows the anguish and pain associated with maintaining such high standards. Get the DVD and book here.
